Foundation luncheon: Tuesday, 7 June 2016, 11:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m.
When the World Conference was last held in New Orleans, IABC was among the first to hold a major conference in a city still recovering from the ravages of hurricane Katrina. With a desire to support the resilience of this unique community, hundreds of attendees arrived early and joined Habitat for Humanity to build new homes for residents — drawing upon a capacity for generosity that so many communication professionals share. That’s the giving nature of this organization.
Let’s celebrate our heroes
Fitting with that spirit of giving, this year’s Foundation luncheon event will celebrate the heroes of our profession, and the organizations they serve. This unique experience will enlighten, inspire and bring the best of the profession forward. During this stirring event, you’ll learn how leaders in our profession are contributing in remarkable and life-changing ways.
Discover how giving back improves the profession, expands our influence and makes communicators more valuable to business than ever before. Giving back means getting back — ten-fold. Attend to be informed, but walk away with a renewed sense of how you can make a difference.
Exemplify the spirit of giving
“Innovative Giving: Sharing time, knowledge and expertise for the greater good” is the focus of this event.
It’s easy to talk about giving back, but harder to put that talk into action — especially when you focus on the giving of time and expertise, versus writing checks. Innovating in this space is even more challenging as the fight to be heard becomes increasingly more competitive.
There are organizations and individuals across the wide spectrum of communication that exemplify the spirit of giving. This year, the IABC Foundation is pleased to bring some of the world’s leaders of philanthropy together to talk about:
- Innovative approaches to mobilize and engage people around giving
- How to create meaningful and lasting results
- Embedding a spirit of giving in organizational culture
- How we can make giving an integral part of our lives
The Foundation’s history
Dating back to 1982, the IABC Foundation was established as a charitable, not-for-profit organization with a mission to support strategic initiatives that advance the practice, perception and effectiveness of the communication profession across the globe. Over the years the Foundation has supported both small and large projects, moving the profession forward through seminal research and educational support.
More recently the Foundation has gone back to its roots to put the focus on giving back through philanthropic initiatives like the Gift of Communication program, featured at the World Conference. It also connects IABC members to volunteer opportunities at the international, regional and local levels. The luncheon event at the conference is the Foundation’s only fund raiser, and this year it represents a restart and refocus on giving.
