Sharon Cheung’s approach as a communicator is simple: listen, learn, and help re-position barriers as clear paths. With experience advising reputable not-for-profits, social justice NGOs, consumer advocacy groups, corporations, political movements, and startups on strategic communications, Sharon has a proven track record as a trusted business communications professional. Sharon lives and breathes the “think global, act local” mindset and is actively engaged in communities within Ottawa, Canada. Her roots as a communicator began as the co-founder of the IABC Excel award-winning youth group, uOPRA (the University of Ottawa Public Relations Association) and was soon after invited to join the IABC Ottawa chapter as a board member whilst pursuing her undergraduate and post-graduate studies. During her time as VP of Professional Development for IABC Ottawa, her team received two Chapter Management Awards under her management, for capacity building and exceptional communications planning. Sharon is also the recipient of the IABC Rick Green Award. In addition to sharing her expertise on relevant programming as a Program Advisory Committee member to World Conference 2018, Sharon serves as a board member for Women in Communications and Technology, advocating for diversity in age and gender in the workforce.
