Helping Your Leaders Sound Local Around the Globe
Leaders are most comfortable communicating according to their own cultural norms, and they rarely consider that those approaches might actually create negative impressions in other cultures. This session involves participants first assessing their own cultural communication profile using a standardized tool developed by culture experts. The rest of the session identifies how differently they and their leaders might need to communicate in Town Halls conducted in various countries because of cultural differences in terms of egalitarianism/hierarchy, group focus, time orientation, work/life balance and other cultural norms. The session will cover how various practical aspects of Town Halls need to be adapted based on these differing cultural norms, including: · Planning the meeting, including the timing and room set-up considerations · The ideal tone/ambience of the meeting, including what, if anything, to do before the meeting actually starts · Introductions of executives conducting the meeting · The opening comments made by an executive · Content of what is covered in the presentation portion of the meeting · How to handle a question-and-answer session · A call to action
Learning Objectives:
- Assess your and your CEO's cultural communication profile.
- Adapt communication approaches when speaking in countries with cultural norms very different from their own.
